Digital audio buyers often feel pressure to get campaigns live fast, especially around holidays, major sports events, and other short windows. Setting up the best targeting and measurement takes time, so it’s tempting to skip both, but speed should never come at the cost of effectiveness.
Whether a fast ad is also the right ad depends on the data behind it. Sherene Hilal, Senior Vice President and Chief Advertising Product Officer at SiriusXM Media, made that point at this year’s Built with Audio, its annual industry event. Brands spend years building audience data to make better advertising decisions. In AdsWizz’s open ecosystem, they can use that data at the moment the ad is chosen, instead of seeing it flattened into someone else’s one-size-fits-all categories.
Audience data that keeps its shape all the way through is what lets a campaign be fast and right at the same time.
Data that comes in exactly as it was built
A brand’s audience segments arrive the way they were built, not reduced to a handful of broad groups. Because the AdsWizz Audio Marketplace is open and works with the tools brands already use, those brands can bring in their own data at massive scale. Segments that keep their definition are what let an ad be chosen for a listener rather than for a group.
Someone listening to a true crime episode on a phone in the car is not the same opportunity as that same person streaming music on a smart speaker at home. In audio, where an ad runs is a targeting decision, not a delivery one. Those differences only help if the audience data is detailed enough to act on them. A platform that forces a brand’s segments into its own fixed categories cannot tell those two moments apart. Speed gets the ad out. A brand’s own data, at full scale and in its own categories, gets it right.
Data that comes back ready to use
Data does not just go in. It comes back out as results, and that return trip matters as much as the first one. AdsWizz delivers data directly into the systems a brand and its partners work in, formatted the way each destination needs it. That might mean feeding a campaign that’s still running, helping a measurement partner put audio next to other channels, or giving an agency insights for its next plan.
Keeping a segment’s original categories intact is critical. A segment that comes back renamed is a segment somebody has to match up by hand, and that is where audience insight can quickly lose its value.
The same problem shows up in identity. Publishers send anonymized listener IDs, but when buyers’ platforms can’t read them, premium inventory ends up selling at standard rates. Through its partnership with LiveRamp, AdsWizz added RampID decryption, which unscrambles those IDs before the bid request goes out so a buyer’s platform can recognize them, along with support for other common ID types, including UID2, ID5, Utiq, ConnectID, CoreID, and EUID. An identifier is only worth what the system receiving it can read.
Video-grade targeting, applied to audio
Data that holds its shape is what makes video-style audience building possible in audio. Media agency Ad Results Media (ARM) built an audience from a client’s first-party data, with behavioral segments spanning multicultural, gaming, and Gen Z listeners, and ran it on AdsWizz’s AudioMatic platform. That kind of targeting had been standard in video and other channels for years. Now it runs in audio at the same scale.
A brand lift study by Lucid, ARM’s measurement partner, found awareness up 4.1%, ad recall up 2.4%, and purchase intent up 1.5%.
Display audiences, now sellable in audio
Publishers have years of first-party audience segments built for display and video. Those now extend into audio through AdsWizz’s integration with Permutive, a platform publishers use to manage and share their audience data.
A publisher picks segments they already manage, on terms they control under a formal data agreement. Those approved segments then become available for audio campaigns across AdsWizz’s tools. No new infrastructure, no ongoing sync between platforms, and no rebuilding an audience strategy that already works.
For a brand, that means more audio inventory it can target, built on real publisher audience data rather than an educated guess about who is listening. Speed fills a publisher’s inventory, but it is the right ad reaching the right listener that brings a brand back.
Ready for whatever buys next
Data that stays intact also leaves a brand ready for buying workflows still taking shape. AI buying agents, software that executes media buys on a buyer’s behalf, are already plugging into this data to automate buying decisions across audio inventory worldwide. An agent can only buy what it can see, which makes openness a requirement rather than a preference.
It’s still early days for these workflows. AdsWizz will keep tracking where the technology goes and working with partners to get more out of the campaigns running today. Publishers whose inventory carries usable audience and identity data stay reachable by whatever shows up next. Brands whose data arrives whole give an agent something real to work with.
Smarter is the part that keeps paying
Audience data stays intact from the moment it enters the system to the moment a report lands back, and it’s usable at every point in between. None of it costs a campaign its launch date. Whether a brand built its data to find customers or a publisher built it to make inventory worth more, that data now does the same job in audio.
